DRILLER KILLER E2 is a tribute by artist Vanessa Scully to the 1979 video nasty classic 'Driller Killer' directed by Abel Ferrara. Set in London’s coolest postcode - the cast of local artists and gallerists play extensions of themselves, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction. Reno is not so different to the typical emerging artist residing in E2. He is creatively rich but economically poor trying to make his mark in a competitive, abundant and ever expanding art world. The pressures of urban living , a nagging girlfriend, an unsupportive gallerist and sharehouse living become too overwhelming for a painter looking to get ahead, ‘Nobody said life would be pretty’. Everything: VOX POP

14 January 2012
£3 / Free to ICA members and NC 2011 participants

Join us for an evening of live art, music, experimentation, DJs, and karaoke. Curated by Aisha Christison and Thomas Shickle, Everything returns for the final time, running in conjunction with Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011: In the Presence. Taking over the Upper and Lower Bar of the ICA, Everything responds to VOX POP organised by Bloomberg New Contemporaries artists David Buckley and Ian Marshall. Everything regular Michael Slusakowicz will be performing new experimental pop music, alongside Vanessa Scully's tribute to Abel Ferrara's 1979 film Driller Killer and a new sound piece by Zehra Arslan, and much more.

In order to explore the changing desire for immediacy and political agency in emerging practices, VOX POP presents a series of films, videos and television clips that have been selected to counterpoint the themes prevalent in the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2011 exhibition: the anarchy and amateurism of Youth TV of the 1990s, the earnestness of gay activism in the Thatcher years and the dedication of do-it-yourself enterprises, from fanzines to YouTube channels. Curated by David Buckley and Ian Marshall.
