DRILLER KILLER E2 is a tribute by artist Vanessa Scully to the 1979 video nasty classic 'Driller Killer' directed by Abel Ferrara. Set in London’s coolest postcode - the cast of local artists and gallerists play extensions of themselves, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction. Reno is not so different to the typical emerging artist residing in E2. He is creatively rich but economically poor trying to make his mark in a competitive, abundant and ever expanding art world. The pressures of urban living , a nagging girlfriend, an unsupportive gallerist and sharehouse living become too overwhelming for a painter looking to get ahead, ‘Nobody said life would be pretty’. DRILLER KILLER E2
Halloween Weekend Special

Private View: From 1pm, Film starts 2pm Saturday 29th October
Exhibition: 29 October – 12 November

DRILLER KILLER E2 is film premiere and exhibition homage to Abel Ferrara’s 1979 video nasty 'Driller Killer'. It seems appropriate to be hosting this exhibition/screening right now, the remake is ever abundant and like a remake of history the Tory party are back in the driving seat. David Cameron sits on his moral high horse declaring that the nation is broken and that society is sick. Moral codes and family values are again being drilled home. It was the early 1980’s and a similar scenario that resulted in the Video Recordings Act 1984. Like the cuts to the arts and humanities, education and the tripling of tuition fees, creativity is under threat. Censorship is back but in a more devastating form.

Showcasing 6 artists for the first time together, David Burrows, Dean Kenning, Elizabeth McAlpine, Simon Ould, Liam Scully and Vanessa Scully make work in response to the film that helped bring about the 1984 Video Recording Act.  In a Shoreditch basement each artist will bring their unique approach to the video nasty, whether it is the kinetic abominations of Dean Kenning or the low-fi offerings of Simon Ould, a mix of the comic and the macabre will both repel and delight.

A matinee film screening of Abel Ferrara’s ‘Driller Killer’ + Vanessa Scully’s ‘Driller Killer E2’ + surprise video nasty trailers by artists working with film. Tickets for the screening are £7.50 per person, £15 for the sofas, and £20 for the deluxe sofa, all come with complimentary Bloody Mary. Tickets available through Aubin Cinema.
